Along with Service League’s history of giving back to the community, we have a Puppet Show that performs, at no cost, for local elementary schools, day care centers and libraries. The performers are volunteers and members of Service League. There is a professional stage made up of parts that can be easily transported by the ladies in their cars. The puppets are each made by hand and the costumes are designed and made specifically for each show. The costumes are very colorful and bright to catch the attention of the children. Special lighting also illuminates the stage and the lively music to which the puppets dance is included.
The first show was in 1966 and Service League performed The Magic Hat . . . one day a magic hat appears in the sky and makes magic wherever it lands. In 1971, Cinderella was performed for more than 400 children and parents at the third annual Santa Surprise Party hosted by the Women’s Committee of the Fine Arts Association held in the Andrews School gym. Over the years, Service League has performed numerous shows, including Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio, Many Moons, The Wizard of Oz and more. The current show we are performing is Stone Soup.
